 Morningstar
is located about half an hour from Nanaimo, between the cozy
oceanside communities of Parksville and Qualicum Beach. Another
Les Furber creation, it's designed to test the strengths of
every golfer's game depending upon which set of four tees
is chosen. Playing at Morningstar can be both exhilarating
and intimidating experience, as there is a dramatic difference
of more that 1,100 yards between the championship gold and
middle white tee markers.
Morningstar's distinct links-style target landing areas
emphasize the importance of accuracy, though length is also
needed to reach several green in the regulation number of
shots. With expansive bunkers, hazardous lakes, challenging
fairway mounding, and huge rolling greens, this course will
keep golfers mentally alert (or else they will pay in strokes).
Golfers at Morningstar will also find it particularly challenging
to play in the face of the prevailing westerlies that sweep
across the Island. In fact, during one Canadian tour event,
many of the pros had to hit two woods into the wind in order
to reach the green at the par-four 18th!
